The heterologous biosynthesis of erythromycin A through E. coli includes the following experimental steps: 1) genetic transfer; 2) heterologous reconstitution; and 3) product analysis. Each step will be explained in the context of the motivation, potential, and challenges in producing therapeutic natural products using E. coli as a surrogate host.
A new rehabilitation method is presented for rebalancing the vestibular system in patients with asymmetric responses, which consists of unidirectional rotations toward the weaker side. By directly modifying the vestibular pathway rather than enhancing the multisensory aspects of compensation, asymmetry can be normalized within 1-2 sessions and show lasting effects.
This protocol introduces Franck-Condon Lineshape Analyses (FCLSA) of emission spectra and serves as a tutorial for the use of ARL Spectral Fitting software. The open-source software provides an easy and intuitive way to perform advanced analysis of emission spectra including excited state energy calculations, CIE color coordinate determination, and FCLSA.
Membrane lipid diversity in structure and composition is an important contributor to cellular processes and can be a marker of disease. Molecular dynamics simulations allow us to study membranes and their interactions with biomolecules at atomistic resolution. Here, we provide a protocol to build, run, and analyze complex membrane systems.
