Gervasi Herranz is a staff researcher at the Institute for Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC). He received his undergraduate from University of Barcelona and a Ph.D. from the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
From 2004 to 2008, Dr. Herranz worked as a postdoc at the Unité Mixte CNRS Thales (Palaiseau, France), working mostly in two-dimensional electron systems for spintronics, based on metal transition oxides. Since 2008, Dr. Herranz works at ICMAB-CSIC on Functional Oxide Interfaces and Photonics. His research includes the study of electronic band engineering of oxide quantum wells to realize tailored properties for applications, mainly in electronics and the field of nanophotonics, magnetoplasmonics and photonic crystal structures. Dr. Herranz is also developing research lines in the use of photoconductive quantum wells to mimic the functioning of biological neurons using optical inputs, with the view put on artificial vision systems.
