Ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy was used to investigate the nature of photoinduced charge transfer processes taking place in ZnSe/CdS/Pt colloidal heteronanocrystals. These nanoparticles consist of a dot-in-a-rod semiconductor domain (ZnSe/CdS) coupled to a Pt tip. Together the three components are designed to dissociate an electron-hole pair by pinning the hole in the ZnSe domain while allowing the electron to transfer into the Pt tip. Separated charges can then induce a catalytic reaction, such as the light-driven hydrogen production. Present measurements demonstrate that the internal electron-hole separation is fast and results in the localization of both charges in nonadjacent parts of the nanoparticle. In particular, we show that photoinduced holes become confined within the ZnSe domain in less than 2 ps, while electrons take approximately 15 ps to transition into a Pt tip. More importantly, we demonstrate that the presence of the ZnSe dot within the CdS nanorods plays a key role both in enabling photoinduced separation of charges and in suppressing their backward recombination. The implications of the observed exciton dynamics to photocatalytic function of ZnSe/CdS/Pt heteronanocrystals are discussed.

The Effect of the Charge-Separating Interface on Exciton Dynamics in Photocatalytic Colloidal Heteronanocrystals.

Ultraschneller transient Absorptionsspektroskopie wurde verwendet, um die Artder photoinduzierten kostenlos Transferprozesse statt in KBR/CdS/Pt kolloidales Heteronanocrystals zu untersuchen. Diese Nanopartikel bestehen aus einer Punkt-in-a-Rod Halbleiter-Dom&auml;ne (KBR/CdS) gekoppelt mit einer Pt-Tipp. Zusammen sollen die drei Komponenten ein Elektron-Loch-paar zu trennen, durch das Loch in der KBR-Dom&auml;ne festhalten, wobei das Elektron in der Pt-Spitze &uuml;bertragen. Getrennte Geb&uuml;hren k&ouml;nnen dann eine katalytische Reaktion, wie der Licht-gesteuerte Wasserstoffproduktion veranlassen. Vorliegende Messungen zeigen, dass die internen Elektron-Loch-Trennung schnell ist und Ergebnisse bei der Lokalisierung von beide Geb&uuml;hren in nicht angrenzenden Teilen der Nanopartikel. Insbesondere zeigen wir, dass photoinduzierten L&ouml;cher innerhalb der Dom&auml;ne ZnSe in weniger als 2 Ps, beschr&auml;nkt werden, w&auml;hrend Elektronen etwa 15 Ps f&uuml;r den &Uuml;bergang in einen Pt-Tipp nehmen. Noch wichtiger ist, beweisen wir, dass die Anwesenheit des KBR Dot innerhalb der CdS mit eine Schl&uuml;sselrolle sowohl photoinduzierten Trennung der Entgelte zu erm&ouml;glichen und spielt bei der Unterdr&uuml;ckung ihrer r&uuml;ckw&auml;rts Rekombination. Estas nanopart&iacute;culas consisten en un dominio de punto-en-un-rod semiconductor (ZnSe/CdS) juntado a una punta del Pt. Juntos los tres componentes est&aacute;n dise&ntilde;ados para disociar un par electr&oacute;n-hueco por fijar el agujero en el dominio de ZnSe permitiendo el electr&oacute;n transferir a la punta del Pt. Cargos separados entonces pueden inducir una reacci&oacute;n catal&iacute;tica, como la producci&oacute;n de hidr&oacute;geno basadas en la luz. Mediciones actuales demuestran que la separaci&oacute;n interna electr&oacute;n-hueco es r&aacute;pida y da lugar a la localizaci&oacute;n de ambos cargos en partes no adyacentes de las nanopart&iacute;culas. En particular, mostramos que fotoinducida agujeros convertido en confinado dentro del dominio de ZnSe en menos de 2 ps, mientras que los electrones hasta aproximadamente 15 ps la transici&oacute;n hacia una punta del Pt. M&aacute;s importante a&uacute;n, demostramos que la presencia del punto ZnSe dentro de los CdS nanorods juega un papel clave tanto en permitir fotoinducida separaci&oacute;n de cargas en la supresi&oacute;n de su recombinaci&oacute;n hacia atr&aacute;s. Se discuten las implicaciones de la din&aacute;mica observada excit&oacute;n a funci&oacute;n fotocatal&iacute;tica de ZnSe/CdS/Pt heteronanocrystals.
