Abstract

Pneumotórax (PTX) representa o acúmulo do ar no espaço pleural. Um pneumotórax grande ou tenso pode colapsar o pulmão e causar comprometimento hemodinâmico, uma desordem de risco de vida. Tradicionalmente, o diagnóstico de pneumotórax neonatal tem sido baseado em imagens clínicas, auscultação, transiluminação e achados de raio-X do tórax. Essa abordagem pode potencialmente levar a um atraso tanto no diagnóstico quanto no tratamento. O uso de pulmão dos EUA no diagnóstico de PTX juntamente com a toracentese orientada pelos EUA resulta em uma gestão mais precoce e mais precisa. As recomendações apresentadas nesta publicação visam melhorar a aplicação do pulmão dos EUA na orientação do diagnóstico e manejo neonatal do PTX.
