Il ripiegamento anomalo e polimerizzazione del β-amiloide (Aβ) peptide è pensato di avviare la cascata neurodegenerative nella patogenesi della malattia di Alzheimer<sup&gt; 1</sup&gt;. Aβ è prevalentemente un 40 - peptide acido o 42 aminoacidi che è incline a auto-aggregazione in β-sheet ricco di fibrille amiloidi che si trovano nei nuclei delle placche senili cerebrali nella malattia di Alzheimer.
