Hersenletsel, genetische manipulatie, en farmacologische behandelingen kunnen leiden tot veranderingen in motorische vaardigheden bij muizen. Fijne motorische coördinatie en evenwicht kan worden beoordeeld door de straal lopen test. Het doel van deze test is voor de muis om overeind te blijven en lopen over een verhoogde smalle bundel naar een veilige platform. Deze test vindt plaats gedurende 3 opeenvolgende dagen: 2 dagen training en 1 dag van het testen. De prestaties op de balk wordt gekwantificeerd door het meten van de tijd die nodig is voor de muis te doorkruisen de balk en het aantal poot glijdt die zich voordoen in het proces. Hier het verslag van het protocol dat gebruikt wordt in ons laboratorium, en de vertegenwoordiger van de resultaten van een cohort van C57BL / 6 muizen. Deze taak is vooral nuttig voor het detecteren van subtiele tekorten in de motoriek en het evenwicht dat niet kan worden gedetecteerd door andere motor tests, zoals de Rotarod.
