MRSA é uma ameaça mundial à saúde pública, e MRSA pele e tecidos moles, infecções hoje respondem por mais da metade de todos os tecidos moles infecções nos Estados Unidos. Entre tecidos moles infecções, miosite, piomiosite, e fasceíte necrotizante tem sido cada vez mais relatada em associação com MRSA provenientes da comunidade. Para entender a interação entre MRSA e imunidade do hospedeiro levando a uma maior infecção grave, a disponibilidade de modelos animais é fundamental, permitindo o estudo do hospedeiro e os fatores bacterianos.
