L&#39;œil de la souris est un modèle important pour l&#39;étude génétique de translation de la maladie ophtalmique humaine. Prévenir la cécité chez l&#39;homme, telles que la dégénérescence maculaire, la dégénérescence des photorécepteurs, la cataracte, le glaucome, le rétinoblastome, et la rétinopathie diabétique ont été récapitulés dans les souris transgéniques. 5.1 La plupart des souris transgéniques et knock-out ont été générées par les laboratoires pour étudier les maladies non ophtalmiques, mais conservation des ressources génétiques entre les systèmes d&#39;organes suggère que bon nombre des mêmes gènes peuvent également jouer un rôle dans le développement oculaire et les maladies.
