Bacteriële vaginose (BV) is een terugkerend polymicrobiële syndroom dat wordt gekenmerkt door een verandering in de &quot;normale&quot; microbiota van Lactobacillus gedomineerde naar een microbiota gedomineerd door een aantal bacteriesoorten, zoals Gardnerella vaginalis, Atopobium vaginae, en anderen 1-3. We hebben onlangs een werkwijze beschreven voor het snel profilering van de vaginale microbiota in een multiplex formaat met behulp van oligonucleotide-gekoppeld fluorescerende kralen met detectie op een Luminex platform 13. Deze methode, als de huidige Gramkleuring-gebaseerde methoden, is snel en eenvoudig, maar voegt het extra voordeel van de exploitatie van moleculaire kennis die voortvloeit uit sequencing studies in probe design. Deze methode geeft daarom een ​​manier om de belangrijkste micro-organismen die aanwezig zijn in een vaginale uitstrijkje dat kan worden gebruikt om de BV diagnose met een hoge specificiteit en sensitiviteit comp profielared om Gramkleuring terwijl aanvullende informatie over de soorten aanwezigheid en overvloed in een semi-kwantitatieve en snelle manier. Deze multiplex methode is uit te breiden tot ver buiten het bereik van de huidige kwantitatieve PCR assays voor bepaalde organismen, die momenteel beperkt tot 5 of 6 verschillende assays in een enkel monster 14. Belangrijk is dat de methode niet beperkt tot de detectie van bacteriën in vaginale swabs en kan eenvoudig aangepast worden om snel het profiel van bijna alle microbiële gemeenschap van belang. Zo hebben we onlangs begonnen met deze methodiek van toepassing zijn op de ontwikkeling van diagnostische tools voor het gebruik in waterzuiveringsinstallaties.
