Interneurônios locais são continuamente regeneradas no bulbo olfativo dos roedores adultos 1-3. Neste processo, chamado de neurogênese adulta, células-tronco neurais nas paredes do ventrículo lateral dão origem a neuroblastos que migram para vários milímetros ao longo do córrego migratório rostral (RMS) para alcançar e incorporar no bulbo olfatório. Aqui, apresentamos uma série de procedimentos para virally expressar Channelrhodopsin2 (ChR2)-YFP em uma coorte temporalmente restrito de neuroblastos na RMS antes de chegar ao bulbo olfativo e tornar-se adulto-nascido neurons. Além disso, mostramos como implantar e calibrar uma miniatura LED para doenças crônicas na estimulação in vivo de ChR2-expressando neurônios.
