Nanotechnologie ist ein relativ neuer Zweig der Wissenschaft, die Nutzung beinhaltet die einzigartigen Eigenschaften von Teilchen, die Nanometer-Skala (Nanopartikel) sind. Nanopartikel können in einer präzisen Art und Weise, wo ihre Größe, Zusammensetzung und Oberflächenchemie sorgfältig kontrolliert werden können manipuliert werden. Dies ermöglicht eine beispiellose Freiheit, um einige der grundlegenden Eigenschaften ihrer Ladung, wie Löslichkeit, Diffusion, Gewebeverteilung Release-Eigenschaften und Immunogenität zu ändern. Seit ihrer Gründung haben Nanopartikel in vielen Bereichen der Naturwissenschaften und der Medizin, einschließlich Drug-Delivery-, Bildbearbeitungs-und Zellbiologie 1-4 verwendet worden. Die beschriebenen Polymer-Nanopartikel ist sehr vielseitig. Der hydrophobe Kern der Nanopartikel genutzt werden, um schwer löslichen Medikamenten für Drug-Delivery experiments6 tragen. Darüber hinaus können die Nanopartikel das Problem der toxischen Lösungsmittel für schwerlösliche Molekularbiologie Reagenzien, wie Wortmannin, die ein Lösungsmittel wie DMSO erfordert überwinden. Allerdings kann DMSO toxisch für Zellen und stören mit dem Experiment. Diese schwer löslichen Medikamenten und Reagenzien kann effektiv geliefert werden unter Verwendung von Polymer-Nanopartikeln mit minimaler Toxizität. Polymer-Nanopartikel können auch mit Fluoreszenzfarbstoff beladen und genutzt werden für intrazellulären Transport Studien. Schließlich können diese Polymer-Nanopartikel konjugiert werden, um Targeting-Liganden durch die Oberfläche PEG.
