Metamaterialien sind künstlich Verbundwerkstoffen, durch Zusammensetzen Komponenten viel kleiner als die Wellenlänge, bei der sie tätig 1 hergestellt. Sie verdanken ihre elektromagnetischen Eigenschaften der Struktur ihrer Bestandteile, anstelle der Atome, die sie zu komponieren. Beispielsweise kann subwellenlängen Metalldrähten angeordnet ist, um eine effektive elektrische Permittivität, die entweder positiv oder negativ ist bei einer gegebenen Frequenz besitzen, im Gegensatz zu den zwei Metalle selbst sein. Diese beispiellose Kontrolle über das Verhalten des Lichts kann möglicherweise zu einer Reihe von neuen Geräten, wie Unsichtbarkeitsmäntel 3, negativen Brechungsindex Materialien 4 und Linsen, die Objekte unterhalb der Beugungsgrenze 5 zu lösen führen. Allerdings werden die bei optischen Metamaterialien, im mittleren Infrarot und Terahertzfrequenzen herkömmlicherweise unter Verwendung von Nano-und Mikro-Herstellungstechniken, die teuer sind und produzieren Proben, die höchstens einige wenige sind JhsZentimetern in der Größe 6-7. Hier präsentieren wir ein Herstellungsverfahren, um Hunderte von Metern Metalldraht Metamaterialien in Form von Fasern, die eine Terahertz-Plasmonen Antwort 8 aufweisen produzieren. Wir verbinden die Stapel-und-Streck-Technik verwendet, um mikrostrukturierte optische Polymerfaser 9 mit dem Taylor-Draht-Prozess 10 zu erzeugen, unter Verwendung von Indium Drähte innerhalb Polymethylmethacrylat (PMMA) Tuben. PMMA wird gewählt, da es eine einfach handhabbare, ziehfähigen Dielektrikum mit geeigneten optischen Eigenschaften in der Terahertz-Bereich; Indium, weil es eine Schmelztemperatur von 156,6 ° C aufweist was angemessen codrawing mit PMMA. Wir schließen ein Indium Drahtes mit 1 mm Durchmesser und 99,99% Reinheit in einer PMMA-Röhrchen mit 1 mm Innendurchmesser (ID) und 12 mm Außendurchmesser (OD), die an einem Ende verschlossen ist. Das Rohr wird evakuiert und nach unten zu einem äußeren Durchmesser von 1,2 mm gezogen. Die resultierende Faser wird dann in kleinere Stücke geschnitten und gestapelt in eine größere PMMA-Rohr. Dieser Stapel wird in einem dichtEnde und in einen Ofen, während sie schnell gezeichnet, Reduzieren des Durchmessers der Struktur um den Faktor 10, und die Erhöhung der Länge um einen Faktor von 100. Solche Fasern besitzen Eigenschaften, auf der Mikro-und Nano-Maßstab, sind von Natur aus flexibler, Massen-produzierbar und können gewebt, um elektromagnetische Eigenschaften, die nicht in der Natur vorkommen aufweisen werden.
