Chytridiomycose, een huidziekte veroorzaakt door de chytrid schimmelpathogeen Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd), is een van de belangrijkste oorzaken van deze dramatische dalingen 2 Bd is de slechtste pathogeen op verslag voor het veroorzaken van het verlies aan biodiversiteit. De huidige chemotherapeutische werkwijzen voor het behandelen Bd infecties, hoewel effectief, schadelijk voor de dieren die behandeld kunnen worden, en geen enkele behandeling methode is succesvol tussen soorten en leeftijdsgroepen amfibieën 7 geweest. Enkele klinische proeven van behandelingen voor Bd infectie zijn uitgevoerd 7. De drie meest gebruikte behandelmethoden zijn warmte therapie, chlooramfenicol en itraconazol. Warmte therapie is een nonchemotherapeutic behandeling die lijkt weinig bijwerkingen, kan op verschillende levensstadia en is algebondgenoot effectief. In een behandelingsproef, Chatfield en Richards-Zawacki 8 vonden dat 96% van de behandelde dieren infecties na gehuisvest bij 30 ° C gedurende 10 dagen had gewist. Hoewel deze proef was niet 100% succes, het dient als referentie voor anderen om warmtetherapie hun eigen soort beoordelen. Warmte therapie, hoewel effectief voor veel soorten onpraktisch voor vele alpine soorten die niet bij hoge temperaturen gedurende lange tijd. Chlooramfenicol, antibacterieel, is met succes gebruikt om Bd in vele soorten behandeling, en remt schimmelgroei in vitro.
