Em comparação com outras técnicas para a investigação de proteína-proteína eminterações, o ensaio BRET é sensível, requer pouca prática em tempo e alguns reagentes, e é capaz de detectar as interações que são fracos, transitórios, ou dependente do ambiente bioquímico encontrado dentro de uma célula viva. É, portanto, uma abordagem ideal para confirmar interacções putativos sugeridos pela proteómica estudos de levedura de dois híbridos ou de espectrometria de massa, e, além disso, é bem apropriado para as regiões de mapeamento interagindo, avaliando o efeito de modificações pós-traducionais sobre as interacções proteína-proteína, e avaliar o impacto das mutações identificadas no DNA do paciente.
