Pez cebra transgénico se han desarrollado que permite la visualización directa de la actividad en las vías de señalización, tales como factores de crecimiento de fibroblastos 1, el ácido retinoico 2 y 3 estrógenos, en embriones vivos. Estas herramientas permiten la detección de productos químicos que perturban las vías de señalización (ensayada como el cambio en la intensidad de fluorescencia) o para los productos químicos que modulan la señalización de una manera específica de tejido (el cambio en la localización de la fluorescencia) 4. Captura de imagen automatizada aumenta el rendimiento de las pantallas químicas dramáticamente 5,6. Pantallas que la fluorescencia de ensayo de forma automática en el pez cebra en vivo a menudo dependen de un equipo caro y especializado. En ausencia de ligando, el ERS son normalmente inactivo. Embriones de pez cebra son una poderosa herramienta para el cribado a gran escala de las moléculas pequeñas. Este protocolo demuestra la capacidad para detectar los estrógenos que activan los receptores en las válvulas del corazón, pero no en el hígado.

La Figura 1 muestra imágenes compuestas a partir de pocillos individuales de una placa de 96 pocillos. Cada imagen compuesta se compone de 59 imágenes individuales con 5% imagen de superposición.
