Trypanosoma brucei causa a doença do sono Africano em seres humanos e uma doença debilitante, nagana, em bovinos. As drogas utilizadas no tratamento das referidas doenças são antiquado e extremamente tóxico, as vacinas não estão disponíveis, e o potencial para o desenvolvimento de resistência às drogas necessita da busca de novos alvos de medicamentos 1.
