Sólo el 5% de los agentes que tienen actividad contra el cáncer en fase de desarrollo preclínico tienen licencia después de mostrar eficacia suficiente en fase de prueba II-III 1,2. Las estrategias preclínicos (tanto in vitro como in vivo) son subóptimas como muchos ejemplos han demostrado que los fármacos antitumorales comportan de manera diferente en humanos y en animales de laboratorio, principalmente debido a sus diferentes componentes de la sangre 3-5.
