Forhøjet intraokulært tryk (IOP) er en væsentlig kausal risikofaktor for tilstedeværelsen og progression af glaukom 2-7. &#160; IOP er reguleret af balance mellem dannelse og afgang af kammervæske 8. Placeringerne af størst udstrømning modstand er de juxtacanicular væv og indervæggen af Schlemm-kanalen (SC), grænsefladen mellem SC og trabekelværket (TM) 9-11. Mens TM stivhed kan bidrage til forebyggelse af SC sammenbrud i lyset af IOP elevation, Overby et al. 12 for nylig vist, at genekspression i glaukom ændres, hvilket resulterer i øget SC endotel afstivende, hæmmer dannelse af porer, hvilket fører til IOP forhøjelse i glaucomatøse øjne 13. trabecular meshwork response to pressure elevation in the living human eye

De mekaniske karakteristika af trabekelværket (TM) er knyttet til udstrømning modstand og intraokulært tryk (IOP) regulering. Rationalet bag denne teknik er den direkte observation af den mekaniske reaktion af TM til akut IOP elevation. Før scanning, er IOP målt ved baseline og under IOP elevation.
