وظيفية في مجال التصوير فيفو أصبح نهجا قويا لدراسة وظيفة وعلم وظائف الأعضاء من خلايا المخ وهياكل الفائدة. في الآونة الأخيرة تم تطوير طريقة جديدة لكا 2+ -imaging باستخدام مراسل إضاءة الحيوية GFP-aequorin (GA). وتعتمد هذه التقنية الجديدة على التحام GFP وaequorin الجينات، مما ينتج عنه قادرة جزيء من الكالسيوم ملزمة و- مع إضافة coelenterazine العامل المساعد ل- انبعاث الضوء الساطع التي يمكن رصدها من خلال جمع الفوتون. تم إنشاء خطوط المعدلة وراثيا تحمل جينات GFP aequorin لكل من الفئران وذبابة الفاكهة. في ذبابة الفاكهة، فقد تم وضع الجينات GFP aequorin تحت سيطرة نظام ثنائي التعبير GAL4 / UAS السماح للتعبير استهدافا والتصوير داخل الدماغ. وفيما بعد تبين أن هذه الطريقة لتكون قادرة على الكشف عن كل من الداخل كا 2+ -transients والكالسيوم 2+ -released من مخازن الداخلية. الأهم من ذلك أنها تتيح لمدة أكبر في تسجيل مستمر، والتصوير في أعماق أكبر في الدماغ، وتسجيلها في قرارات الزمنية عالية (تصل إلى 8.3 مللي ثانية). هنا نقدم الطريقة الأساسية لاستخدام التصوير إضاءة الحيوية لتسجيل وتحليل الكالسيوم 2+ -activity داخل الهيئات الفطر، هيكل مركزي في التعلم والذاكرة في الدماغ الطاير.
