Séparation sélective des oxoanions hydrophiles (par exemple, le sulfate, chromate, phosphate) à partir de solutions aqueuses concurrentielles représente un défi fondamental présentant de l&#39; intérêt pour l&#39; assainissement environnemental, la production d&#39;énergie, et la santé humaine. 1,2 Sulfate en particulier est difficile à extraire de l&#39; eau en raison de sa la réticence intrinsèque à se débarrasser de sa sphère d&#39;hydratation et de migrer dans des environnements moins polaires. 3 Faire extraction de sulfate aqueuse plus efficace nécessite généralement des récepteurs complexes qui sont difficiles et fastidieux à synthétiser et à purifier, impliquant souvent des réactifs et solvants toxiques. 4,5 Cristallisation sélective offre une alternative simple mais efficace pour sulfater la séparation de l&#39; eau. 6-9 Bien que certains cations métalliques tels que Ba 2+, Pb 2+, ou la forme très insolubles sels de sulfate de Ra, leur utilisation dans la séparation du sulfate est pas toujours pratique en raison de leur haute toxiville et parfois une faible sélectivité. En employant des ligands organiques comme précipitants sulfate tire parti de la diversité structurelle et la susceptibilité à la conception caractéristique des molécules organiques. Un ligand organique idéal pour la cristallisation du sulfate aqueux doit être soluble dans l&#39;eau, mais former un sel de sulfate insoluble ou complexe dans un temps relativement court et en présence de concentrations élevées d&#39;ions concurrents. En outre, il devrait être facile à synthétiser et à recycler. L&#39; un de ces un ligand, le 1,4-benzène-bis (iminoguanidinium) (BBiG) auto-assemblé in situ à partir de deux précurseurs disponibles dans le commerce, téréphtalaldéhyde et du chlorure de aminoguanidinium, ont été récemment révélés être extrêmement efficaces dans la séparation de sulfate aqueuse. 10 Le ligand est sous la forme de chlorures solubles dans l&#39;eau et cristallise sélectivement avec du sulfate en un sel extrêmement insoluble qui peut être facilement éliminé de la solution par simple filtration. Le ligand BBiG peut ensuite être récupéré par déprotonation avecNaOH queous et la cristallisation du bis-iminoguanidine neutre, qui peut être reconverti en la forme chlorure avec du HCl aqueux et réutilisée dans un autre cycle de séparation. L&#39;efficacité de ce ligand pour éliminer le sulfate de l&#39;eau est si grand que le contrôle de la concentration en sulfate restant en solution est plus une tâche triviale, ce qui nécessite une technique plus avancée qui permet une mesure précise des quantités infimes de l&#39;anion. A cet effet, le sulfate radiomarqué 35S traceur conjointement avec β comptage à scintillation liquide a été utilisé, une technique couramment utilisée dans la séparation liquide-liquide d&#39; extraction, et a récemment démontré son efficacité dans la surveillance du sulfate de cristallisation. 8 Ce protocole démontre l&#39;monotope la synthèse in situ du ligand BBiG et sa cristallisation sous forme de sel de sulfate à partir de solutions aqueuses. La synthèse ex situ du ligand 11 est également présenté comme un cométhode nvenient pour la production de plus grandes quantités de BBiG-Cl, qui peuvent être stockées sous la forme cristalline jusqu&#39;à utilisation. élimination Sulfate de l&#39;eau de mer en utilisant le ligand BBiG-Cl préalablement préparé est ensuite démontrée. Enfin, l&#39;utilisation de 35S-sulfate marqués et β le comptage à scintillation liquide pour mesurer la concentration en sulfate dans l&#39; eau de mer est démontrée. Ce protocole est destiné à fournir un tutoriel pour ceux largement intéressés à explorer l&#39;utilisation de cristallisation sélective pour la séparation d&#39;anions aqueux.

sulfate separation by selective crystallization with a bis-iminoguanidinium ligand

A simple and effective method for selective sulfate separation from aqueous solutions by crystallization with a bis-guanidinium ligand, 1,4-benzene-bis(iminoguanidinium) (BBIG), is demonstrated. The ligand is synthesized as the chloride salt (BBIG-Cl) by in situ imine condensation of terephthalaldehyde with aminoguanidinium chloride in water, followed by crystallization as the sulfate salt (BBIG-SO4). Alternatively, BBIG-Cl is synthesized ex situ in larger scale from ethanol. The sulfate separation ability of the BBIG ligand is demonstrated by selective and quantitative crystallization of sulfate from seawater. The ligand can be recycled by neutralization of BBIG-SO4 with aqueous NaOH and crystallization of the neutral bis-iminoguanidine, which can be converted back into BBIG-Cl with aqueous HCl and reused in another separation cycle. Finally, 35S-labeled sulfate and &#946; liquid scintillation counting are employed for monitoring the sulfate concentration in solution. Overall, this protocol will instruct the user in the necessary skills to synthesize a ligand, employ it in the selective crystallization of sulfate from aqueous solutions, and quantify the separation efficiency.
