Er is behoefte aan extra biomarkers die kunnen worden gebruikt voor het identificeren en classificeren van patiënten in de vroege stadia van de ziekte, en eventuele nieuwe behandelingen te volgen. Veel neurodegeneratieve ziekten nog ontbreken effectieve behandelingen. Betrouwbare biomarkers voor het identificeren en classificeren van deze ziekten is belangrijk in de ontwikkeling van toekomstige nieuwe therapieën. Vaak potentiële nieuwe biomarkers niet maken in de kliniek als gevolg van beperkingen in hun ontwikkeling en hoge kosten. Echter, gerichte proteomics behulp Multiple Reaction Monitoring vloeistofchromatografie-tandem / massaspectrometrie (MRM LC-MS / MS), in het bijzonder via triple quadrupole massaspectrometers, is een methode die kan worden gebruikt om snel evalueren en valideren van biomarkers voor klinische toepassing in diagnostische laboratoria .
