מערכת העצבים מורכבת של מגוון עצום של סוגי נוירונים ברורים. תת-אוכלוסיות נוירונים אלו מתאפיינות, בין שאר התכונות, מורפולוגיות הדנדריטים הנבדלות, דפוסים מסוימים שלהם של קישוריות אקסונלית, ותגובות ירי סלקטיווי שלהם. המנגנונים המולקולריים תאיים האחראים על היבטים אלה של בידול במהלך פיתוח עדיין הם הבינו היטב. כאן אנו מתארים פרוטוקולים משולבים תיוג ואפיון הקישוריות המבנית הרגיש של נוירונים בקליפת המוח. שינוי של electroporation ברחם (IUE) הפרוטוקול מאפשר תיוג של אוכלוסייה דלילה של נוירונים. זה, בתורו, מאפשר זיהוי ומעקב של דנדריטים אקסונים של נוירונים בודדים, אפיון מדויק של מיקום למינרית של תחזיות axonal, וניתוח morphometric.
