<p class="jove_content"> CD1 proteiner utgör en tredje klass av antigen-presenterande molekyler. De är cellytan glykoproteiner, uttryckt i cirka 50-kDa glykosylerat tunga kedjor som noncovalently är förknippade med beta2-mikroglobulin. De binder fett snarare än peptider. Även om deras struktur bekräftar likheten mellan CD1 proteiner till MHC klass I och klass II antigenpresenterande molekyler är mCD1d spåret relativt smal, djup och mycket hydrofoba och har två bindande fickor istället för flera små fickor beskrivs för klassiska MHC- kodade antigen-presenterande molekyler. Baserat på deras aminosyra sekvenser, ger en sådan hydrobphobic spår en idealisk miljö för bindning av lipid antigener. </p><p class="jove_content"> Det Naturliga mördar-T (NKT) celler använder sin TCR att känna igen glykolipider bundna till eller presenteras av CD1d. T-celler reaktiva med lipider presenteras av CD1 har varit inblandade i skyddet mot autoimmuna och smittsamma sjukdomar och i tumören avslag. Således är förmågan att identifiera, rena och spåra svar CD1-reaktiva NKT celler av stor betydelse. Den generationen av tetramers av alfa Galactosyl Ceramide (en-Galcer) med CD1d har betydande insikt i biologi NKT celler. Tetramers konstrueras från andra CD1 molekyler har också genererat och dessa nya reagenser har kraftigt utökad kunskap om funktioner av lipid-reaktiva T-celler, med potentiell användning i övervakningen svaret på lipid-baserat vaccin och vid diagnostisering av autoimmuna sjukdomar och andra behandlingar. </p>
