モロニーマウス白血病（MLV）ウイルスベースのレトロウイルスベクターは、主にアセチル化エンハンサーおよびプロモーターに組み込まれる。この理由から、mLV組込み部位は、活性調節エレメントの機能的マーカーとして使用することができる。ここでは、細胞特異的エンハンサーおよびプロモーターのゲノムワイドな同定を可能にするレトロウイルススキャニングツールを紹介します。簡潔には、標的細胞集団をmLV由来ベクターで形質導入し、ゲノムDNAを頻繁に切断する制限酵素で消化する。適合するDNAリンカーでゲノム断片をライゲーションした後、リンカー媒介ポリメラーゼ連鎖反応（LM-PCR）により、ウィルス - ホストゲノム接合の増幅が可能になる。アンプリコンの大規模な配列決定は、全ゲノムのmLVインテグレーションプロファイルを定義するために使用されます。最後に、細胞型特異的転写プログラムの活性化に関与する細胞特異的調節領域を同定するために、反復インテグレーションのクラスターを定義する。 例えば、体細胞幹細胞）の遡及的同定のための道具技術を表す。
