מערכת קוואזי אלקטרון 2D (q2DES) המהווה את הממשק בין LaAlO3 (לאו) ו- SrTiO3 (STO) משכה תשומת לב רבה של הקהילה אלקטרוניקה תחמוצת. אחד התכונות סימן ההיכר שלו הוא קיומה של עובי לאו קריטי של 4 יחידות-תאים (uc) עבור מוליכות פנים להסתמן. למרות מנגנוני אלקטרוסטטית הוצעו בעבר כדי לתאר את קיומו של עובי קריטי זה, החשיבות של פגמים כימי היה לאחרונה הבליטו. כאן, אנו מתארים את הצמיחה של מתכת/לאוס/STO heterostructures במערכת גבוהה במיוחד ואקום (UHV) אשכול המשלב לייזר פעמו התצהיר (לגדל את לאו), המגנטרון התזה (לגדול המתכת) and photoelectron הספקטרומטריה (XPS). אנחנו לומדים צעד אחר צעד את ההיווצרות וההתפתחות של q2DES ואת האינטראקציות כימיות המתרחשות בין המתכת והן את לאו/STO. בנוסף, ניסויים magnetotransport להסבר על התחבורה ועל תכונות אלקטרוניות של q2DES. עבודה שיטתית זו לא רק מדגים דרך ללמוד אלקטרוסטטית וכימיים יחסי הגומלין בין q2DES את הסביבה, אלא גם מבטלת את האפשרות כמה שכבות הגבלת התכיפות משולבות עם פיזיקה עשיר שנצפתה דו מימדי אלקטרון מערכות, ומאפשר הזיוף של סוגים חדשים של התקנים.
