Neural entrainment er synkronisering av nevrale aktiviteten til periodicity av sensoriske stimuli. Denne synkroniseringen genererer steady-state fremkalt potensial, det vil si svingninger i elektroencefalogram faselåst til sensoriske stimuli. Den klassiske tolkningen av amplituden til steady-state fremkalte svar, forutsetter en konstant neural respons faselåst til stimulansen, pluss en tilfeldig bakgrunnsstøy som ikke er relatert til stimulansen.
Den stereotypiske responsen kan oppnås i snitt over gjentatt presentasjon av stimulansen. Denne tilnærmingen ignorerer dynamikken i responsen, som i tilfelle av fremkalt potensiell tilpasning, fremkalt av langvarig eksponering for stimulansen. I dyremodeller genereres den auditive steady-state-responsen i de kortikale hjerneområdene, og legger til kontinuerlig presentasjon av amplitudmodulerte toner.
Hos mennesker har det nylig blitt vist at kraften i den grunnleggende frekvensen av steady-state visuelt påkalt potensial er stasjonært bare hos 30% av fagene. Når forskningens fokus er dynamikken i entrainment, kan vi anta at den timelige utviklingen av responsen vil være den samme i forskjellige uavhengige eksperimentelle løp. Derfor gir gjennomsnittet av signalet i hver epoke på tvers av uavhengige løp en nøyaktig representasjon av den langsiktige dynamikken i den svingende responsen.
Basert på denne antagelsen har vi utviklet en metode for å karakterisere tidsutviklingen av steady-state-responsen. Metoden består av å anskaffe flere opptak av samme eksperimentelle tilstand, etter i stedet for å gjennomsnittlig påfølgende epoker i opptakene. Epoker som tilsvarer samme tidsvindu i de forskjellige opptakene er i gjennomsnitt.
I denne studien gir vi en detaljert beskrivelse av metoden, ved hjelp av steady-state visuelt fremkalte potensialer som et eksempel på et svar. Metodikken kan imidlertid brukes til å analysere steady-state svarene til andre sensoriske stimuli. Til slutt presenterer vi fordelene og ulempene ved metodikken, basert på sammenligningen med enkeltprøvemetoder, bruker den til å analysere nevrale entrainment.

Antall opptakssteder kan variere etter behov. Vanligvis tar vi opp fra 64 hodebunnssteder ved hjelp av et radiosystem. Plasser opptakselektrodene på de riktige stedene.
Følg den frivillige til det eksperimentelle rommet og be faget om å sitte i en komfortabel posisjon. Plasser eksterne elektroder på periocular steder for å registrere elektrookulogram. Disse signalene vil bli brukt i de neste trinnene, for å korrigere EEG artefakter indusert av blinkende og øyebevegelser.
Slå på EEG-oppkjøpssystemet og kontroller elektrodeimpedansen. Korriger impedansen etter behov, i henhold til produsentens anvisninger. Be motivet blinke og bevege øynene i forskjellige retninger for å sikre at EOG registreres riktig av de eksterne elektrodene.
Juster plasseringen av skjermen i vertikal retning, i henhold til motivens visningsvinkel. Vår skjerm består av fire lysdioder som ligger i midten av en 50x50 cm svart skjerm, da toppunktene på torget er 5x5 cm. Deltakerne sitter ca 70 centimeter fra skjermen slik at er av kvadratet av lysdioder substends en visuell vinkel på omtrent fire grader.
Juster lysstyrkenivået på skjermen til øvre grense for deltakernes komfortable nivå. Angi parametrene for visuell stimulering. I våre eksperimenter presenteres en kontinuerlig visuell stimulering der lysintensiteten moduleres ved 10 Hz.
Presenter stimulansen for tiden som kreves i eksperimentet. Sett stimuleringen på pause i to minutter. Pauser tre ganger lengre enn stimuleringsperioden anbefales.
Gjenta presentasjonstrinnene 30 ganger. 30 kjøringer av eksperimentet vil sikre et høyt signal til støyforhold av målingene. Likevel kan et høyere antall repetisjoner implementeres i eksperimentell protokoll.
Registrer EEG ved hjelp av standardprosedyrer. De eksperimentelle kjøringene kan lagres i en enkelt fil, eller en annen fil kan opprettes for hver kjøring. De neste trinnene tilsvarer en standard EEG-behandling.
Denne behandlingen utføres frakoblet og kan endres etter behov. Re-referere opptaket ved hjelp av en gjennomsnittlig referanse. Bånd pass filter EEG signalet, avskårne frekvenser kan endres etter behov.
Om nødvendig, konvertere elektrodekoordinatene til det internasjonale 10-20-systemet. Fjern okulære artefakter ved hjelp av passende prosedyrer. For dette formål kan forskjellige teknikker brukes.
Segmenter EEG-dataene og epokene av passende lengde. Fjern epoker som inneholder EEG artefakter. Detrend EEG epoker å dirigere dagens drift.
Omorganisere epoker til en datamatrise av N-rader og M-kolonner, der N representerer antall opptak, og M, antall epoker. Kolonnemessig, gjennomsnitt datasettet. For dette formål må de tretti epokene som tilsvarer samme tidsvindu i de forskjellige opptakene, i gjennomsnitt i tidsdomenet.
Beregne amplituden til steady-state-responsen på slutten av snittet ved hjelp av Fast Fourier Transform. Amplituden til steady-state-responsen er definert som spektral amplitude oppnådd ved frekvensen av amplitudmodulasjonene til sensoriske stimuli. Vector gjennomsnitt amplituden til et ekstra hauk antall FFT-hyller på hver side av frekvensen av responsen for å beregne reststøynivået.
Plott amplituden til steady-state-responsen og RNL som en funksjon av kolonneindeks for å utforske utviklingen av parametrene i stimuleringsperioden. Resultater. Figur to illustrerer endringer i bølgeformen til SSVEP som følge av kolonnevist snitt av epoker. 30 innspillinger ble innhentet.
Den nevrale svingningstiden låst til stimuleringen ble tydelig da kolonnens kloke snitt ble utført. Betydelig, kan perioden som SSVEP genereres observeres i sporene som tilsvarer kolonne en. I denne kolonnen plottes 02 sekunder med pre-stimulus baseline.
Derfor gjør prosedyren beskrevet her å karakterisere ikke bare dynamikken i svingningsresponsen når den nevrale inntrainment allerede er etablert, men også engasjementet til nevrale svingninger. Gjennomsnittlig amplitude av SSVEP redusert i snitt av de første epokene av kolonnene og hadde en tendens til å stabilisere seg etterpå. Denne virkemåten kan forklares av det relativt høye bidraget av støyen til responsalituden som beregnes i de første gjennomsnittlige epokene som dempes etter hvert som snittet utføres.
Standardavviket for reststøynivået forble relativt konstant etter hvert som antall gjennomsnittlige epoker økte, noe som tyder på at opptaksforholdene var stabile langs den eksperimentelle delen. Resultatene som presenteres ovenfor, fastslo endringene i toppsignalet til støyforholdet for målingene. Etter hvert som snittet utviklet seg, økte toppsignalet til støyforholdet etter hvert som antall gjennomsnittlige epoker økte opp til 18, omtrent.
Ytterligere økninger i antall gjennomsnittlige epoker påvirket ikke signalets kvalitet betydelig. Til slutt, dynamikken i steady-state visuelle fremkalt potensiell amplitude, og gjenværende støynivå er representert i Fig. 4 Disse dynamikkene ble oppnådd ved å plotte responsparametrene beregnet på slutten av kolonnen klokt snitt av epoker som en funksjon av antall kolonner som en funksjon av tid.
I dette emnet økte responsalituden gradvis i løpet av de første 12 sekundene, etter stimulansoppsett. Tiden, som tilsvarer lengden på tre epoker. Etter hvert som stimulansen vedvarte, ble responsen konsekvent redusert i løpet av de følgende 12 sekundene, og forble relativt konstant etterpå.
Disse resultatene kan ikke forklares av oppførselen til RNL, siden denne parameteren var relativt konstant i stimuleringsperioden. Økningen i SSVEP amplitude etter stimulansen begynner, kan forklares med integreringsprosesser, noe som resulterer i stabilisering av nevrale entrainment. Den påfølgende reduksjonen i amplitud antyder tilpasning av SSVEP til vedvarende stimulering.
Likevel må disse hypotesene testes i kontrollerte eksperimenter med passende prøvestørrelse. Beregning av amplituden til steady-state-svarene etter tidsdomenets snitt av uavhengige kjøringer innebærer å analysere bare tidslåste svingninger, de som overlever snittet. Denne fremgangsmåten kan filtrere relevant informasjon om dynamikken i svaret i individuelle forsøk.
Det garanterer imidlertid et tilstrekkelig høyt signal-til-støy-forhold. Dette aspektet kan være av særlig betydning når svarene er nær den elektrofysiologiske terskelen, en tilstand der påvisning av entrainment kan kompromitteres på grunn av lavt signal-til-støy-forhold mellom målingen.
En protokoll for å vurdere tiden utviklingen av nevrale entrainment til eksterne repeterende stimuli presenteres. En fast-State opptak av samme eksperimentelle tilstand er ervervet og gjennomsnitt i tids domenet. Den steady-state dynamikk analyseres ved å plotte responsen amplitude som en funksjon av tid.
