Imidlertid har ingen av disse studiene vurdert den direkte virkningen av elektrisk støy på følsomheten til individuelle neurons i Vestibular systemet. Her viser vi den først...

Vestibular (eller balanse) systemet styrer vår balanse følelse ved å integrere hørbar, Proprioceptive, somatosensory og visuell informasjon. Forringelse av Vestibular systemet har vist å forekomme som en funksjon av alder og kan resultere i balanse underskudd1,2. Men terapier rettet mot funksjon av Vestibular systemet er knappe.
Galvanic Vestibular stimulering (GVS) har vist å forbedre balanse tiltak, autonom funksjon og andre sensoriske modaliteter innen mennesker3,4,5,6. Disse forbedringene er sagt å være på grunn av Stokastisk resonans (SR) fenomen, som er økningen i påvisning av svakere signaler i ikke-lineære systemer via anvendelsen av subthreshold støy7,8. Disse studiene har vist forbedringer i statiske9,10 og Dynamic11,12 balanse, og Vestibular output tester som øye Counter roll (OCR)13. Men mange av disse studiene har brukt ulike kombinasjoner av stimulans parametre som hvit støy9, farget støy13, ulike stimulans frekvensområder og terskelverdi teknikker. Derfor, optimale stimulans parametre forblir ukjent, og denne protokollen kan bistå med å bestemme de mest effektive parametrene. Foruten stimulans parametere, den type stimulans er også viktig i terapeutisk og eksperimentell effekt. Ovennevnte arbeid hos mennesker ble utført ved hjelp av elektrisk støy stimuli, mens mye av in vivo Animal arbeidet har brukt mekaniske14,15 eller optogenetic16 støy stimuli. Denne protokollen vil bruke elektrisk støy for å undersøke virkningene på Vestibular kjerner.
Tidligere ble anvendelsen av GVS for å stimulere primær Vestibular afferents utført i vivo i ekorn Monkeys17, Chinchillas18, kylling embryo15 og marsvin14. Men bare to av disse studiene undersøkte effekten GVS har på gevinst av primær Vestibular afferents14,15. Disse eksperimentene ble utført i Vivo, noe som betyr at de presise mønstrene for stimulering pålagt Vestibular kjerner ikke kan fastslås. Til vår kunnskap, har bare en annen studie brukt Stokastisk støy til individuelle enzymatisk dissosiert neurons i sentralnervesystemet19. Men ingen eksperimenter har blitt utført i de sentrale Vestibular kjerner for å vurdere passende stimulans parametre og terskelverdi teknikker, noe som gjør denne protokollen mer presis i å bestemme stimulans effekter på individuelle neurons innenfor Vestibular Kjerner.

Galvanisk Vestibular stimulering (GVS) har vist å forbedre balanse tiltakene hos personer med balanse-eller Vestibular nedskrivninger. Faktisk kan sinusformet og stokastisk støy påføres ved sub terskel amplituder på seks pico ampere endre gevinsten av MVN nevroner. De etablerte stimulansparametrene kan brukes på nerven som innoverer de enkelte nevronene for å gi en mer naturalistisk stimuli.
