本研究は、融合されたEEGとfNIRSの神経イメージング技術を用いて、フランカータスクの根底にある神経活性化パターンを明らかにする働くプロトコルを開発することを目的としている。興味深いことに、同時fNIRS-EEGの記録は前頭前野の血行力学的信号と、フランカータスクに関連する脳全体の様々な事象関連ポテンシャル(ERP)成分との関係を検査することを可能にする。
機能近赤外分光法(fNIRS)、脳波(EEG)、および機能的磁気共鳴画像法(fMRI)を含む様々な非侵襲的神経イメージングモダリティの統合は、脳1、2、32,3において情報処理が行われている場所と1時期の理解を深めるために不可欠である。さらに、fNIRSとEEGを組み合わせて、局所的な神経活動とその後の血行力学的応答の変化との関係を調べる可能性があり、脳脳とfNIRSは人間の脳認知機能の神経機構を明らかにする上で補完的であり得る。fNIRSは、脳の活性化を推測するために血行力学的応答に依存する血管ベースの機能的神経イメージング技術である。,fNIRSは、認知処理33、4、5、6、7の研究において重要な役割を果たす大脳皮質における相対的なオキシヘモグロビン(HbO)およびデオキシヘモグロビン(HbR)濃度変化6を7測定する。,4,5神経血管および神経代謝結合機構8によれば、認知処理に伴う局所神経活動の変化は、一般的に、4〜7秒の遅延を伴う局所血流および血液酸素におけるその後の変化を伴う。神経血管結合は、電力トランスデューサーである可能性が高く、神経活動の速いダイナミクスを遅い血圧力学9の血管入力に統合することが示されている。具体的には、fNIRSは、主に前頭葉の神経血管活動を検査するために用いられ、特に、執行機能10、11、12、11,12推論および計画1013、意思決定14、及び社会的認知および道徳的判断15のような高い認知機能を担う前頭前野を検査する。しかし、fNIRSによって測定された血行力学的応答は、間接的に低い時間的解像度で神経活動を捉えるのに対し、EEGは神経活動の時間的に微細で直接的な尺度を提供することができる。その結果、脳とfNIRSの記録の組み合わせは、より多くの特徴を識別し、脳の機能に関連するより多くの情報を明らかにすることができます。
