Entomopatojenik mantarlar (EPF), önemli tarımsal böcek zararlılarının biyolojik kontrolünde bitki koruma ajanları olarak önem kazanmıştır 1,2. Toprakta doğal olarak bulunan entomopatojenler, çeşitli haşere türlerinin popülasyonlarında epizootiklere nedenolur 3. EPF türleri konakçıya özgüdür ve hedef olmayan türlere saldırma açısından nispeten az risk oluşturur ve çevre için toksik değildirler4. EPF, konakçılarını istila etmek ve yakın çevrelerinde yaymak ve kalıcı olmak için benzersiz bir mekanizmaya sahiptir1. Bununla birlikte, entomopatojenlerin seri üretim ve formülasyon süreci, nihai ürünün virülansı, maliyeti, raf ömrünü ve saha etkinliğini doğrudan etkiler. IPM'de başarılı bir şekilde kullanılması için, entomopatojenlerin üretim sürecinin çalıştırılması kolay olmalı, minimum emek gerektirmeli, yüksek verimli virülan, canlı ve kalıcı propagules konsantrasyonu üretmeli ve düşük maliyetliolmalıdır 4,13,14,16.
Entomopatojenlerin beslenme gereksinimlerinin anlaşılması, tüm kültürleme yöntemleriyle kitle ekimi için önemlidir 4,12. Üretim ortamının besin bileşenleri, biyokontrol etkinliği, verim, kuruma toleransı ve kalıcılık 8,19,20,21 dahil olmak üzere ortaya çıkan propagüllerin özellikleri üzerinde önemli bir etkiye sahiptir. Üretim prosedürlerinin optimizasyonu bu faktörleri ele almak için tasarlanmıştır22. Metarhizium anisopliae tür kompleksinin entomopatojenik mantarları, tarımsal böcek zararlılarının biyolojik kontrol ajanları olarak önem kazanmıştır.
