דבורי הדבש (Apis mellifera L.) בתוך הכוורת (אחיות ודבורי כוורת אחרות) ומחוץ לכוורת (foragers) חשופות לשינויי אקלים ומזג אוויר, חומרי הדברה שונים, פתוגנים ותת תזונה, הנכנסים בעיקר דרך הפה ומשפיעים בעיקר על דרכי העיכול של דבורים בוגרות. כדי להבין ולמנוע את ההשפעות של גורמי לחץ חיצוניים ופנימיים כאלה על דבורי הדבש, אחת משיטות המחקר השימושיות היא השיטה האימונוהיסטוכימית. פרוטוקול בסיסי מתואר להכנת בלוטות האמצע (ventriculus) וההיפו-לוע (HPGs) של דבורים בוגרות לניתוח היסטולוגי. מתודולוגיה מפורטת מתוארת כדי להעריך את רמת הנזק לתאים ולהבחין בין נמק למוות תאי מתוכנת (אפופטוזיס) כתהליך טבעי של התחדשות רקמות. תוצאות הטיפול בדבורת הדבש הבוגרת בחומצה אוקסלית ובחומרי הדברה (קוטל חרקים ואקריציד) וקביעת מוות תאי בחדר וב- HPGs מוצגות. היתרונות והחסרונות של המתודולוגיה נדונים גם הם.
