Det er velkendt, at patogenesen af abdominal distension forårsaget af KOL ikke forstås fuldt ud, hvilket forhindrer udviklingen af nye terapier og lægemidler. Kronisk obstruktiv lungesygdom (KOL) er en almindelig kronisk forbrugssygdom i åndedrætssystemet. Patienter med KOL manifesterer sig hovedsageligt i kronisk hoste og sputum, med den progressive udvikling af sygdommen og gradvis fald i lungefunktionen. Sygdommen kan være kompliceret af kronisk lungehjertesygdom, respirationssvigt og hjertesvigt i de senere stadier af sygdommen, hvilket alvorligt påvirker patienternes livskvalitet. Det rapporteres, at ændringer i tarmens mikrobiota er forbundet med sygdomsprogression i KOL1. Ud over lungesymptomer rapporterede 40,31% af patienterne med stabil KOL abdominal afstand. Abdominal distension kan have en betydelig indvirkning på forværring af lungesymptomer, øge hyppigheden af akutte forværringer af KOL og forringe livskvaliteten hos patienter med stabil KOL 2,3. De kan producere antioxidantstoffer og dermed spille en regulerende rolle, som kan fremme immunsystemets stressrespons og forbedre blodcirkulationen11,12. Varm akupunktur og moxibustion kan bruges til behandling af cervikal spondylose 13, knæartritis 14, dysmenoré 15, forstoppelse 16, irritabel tarmsyndrom 17 og så videre. Eksperimentelle undersøgelser har vist sig, at akupunktur kan lindre abdominal distension ved at regulere hjerne-tarmaksen18. Akupunktur kombineret med moxibustion reducerer signifikant abdominal afstand19, som kan udøves gennem regulering af plasmaprostaglandin E2 og gastrinniveauer i plasma og maveslimhindevæv20. I mellemtiden er varm akupunktur og moxibustion bedre end prokinetik og skinakupunktur med hensyn til at forbedre symptomerne på funktionel dyspepsi21. Akupunktur kan styrke membranen og lindre træthed i åndedrætsmusklerne samt forbedre kuldioxidretention og hypoxi og forebygge og lindre respirationssvigt22. Varm akupunktur og moxibustion forbedrer lungefunktionen, kliniske symptomer og livskvalitet hos patienter med stabil KOL23,24.
Ifølge teorien om kinesisk medicin, at "lungen står i indvendigt-udvendigt forhold til tyktarmen", har opvarmningsakupunktur- og moxibustionsbehandlingen, der anvendes i denne undersøgelse, til formål at fremme genopretningen af gastrointestinal funktion og forbedre lungefunktionen og livskvaliteten. Varm akupunktur og moxibustion er yderst effektive, nemme at udføre og billige former for traditionel kinesisk medicin behandlinger.
