Este estudo fornece um protocolo rápido e robusto para o isolamento de Campylobacter de produtos alimentícios. Ele supera várias desvantagens dos métodos existentes e oferece vantagens para a posterior detecção e caracterização do isolado. Os auxiliares de enxágue no campo são muitas vezes 10.000 vezes maiores do que as amostras usadas em ensaios de detecção de segurança alimentar, como PCR.
Há necessidade de reduzir o erro de subamostragem para garantir que os resultados sejam representativos da população de interesse. Este protocolo foi utilizado para isolar mais de 50 cepas de Campylobacter, que foram posteriormente utilizadas em estudos genômicos. Nossos dados e análises contribuíram para o entendimento dos mecanismos das moléculas dos agentes hospedeiros de Campylobacter e da transferência horizontal de genes.
Tal tamanho facilitará o desenvolvimento de novas estratégias terapêuticas para o manejo da Campilobacteriose. Este protocolo oferece a oportunidade de reduzir a subamostragem por um fator de 13 e também reduz o tempo necessário para isolar Campylobacter da carne crua em 24 horas ou dentro de uma jornada de trabalho de oito horas. Estudos futuros poderão aplicar esta metodologia para o isolamento de Campylobacter, não só de produtos alimentícios, mas também de amostras ambientais.
Isso pode ajudar a eliminar resultados falsos negativos e fornecer uma quantificação mais precisa do número de amostras contaminadas.
