Kwok-Fai Lau is an Associate Professor in the School of Life Sciences, the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He received his B.Sc. (Hons) and Ph.D. degrees from the Hong Kong Baptist University and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, respectively.

After finishing his Ph.D., Dr. Lau joined the Department of Neuroscience at the Institute of Psychiatry in London, UK as a Croucher Foundation research fellow where he developed an interest in the molecular and cellular pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia. He focused on the roles of Alzheimer’s disease amyloid precursor protein interactors in the disease pathogenesis. In 2007, he returned to his Alma mater as Assistant Professor at the Department of Biochemistry and continued his research on dementia.

Dr. Lau is also interested in neurite development as severe neurite degeneration is a hallmark of many neurodegenerative disorders. Hence, strategies that stimulate neurite outgrowth could promote re-establishment of damaged neuro-connections. His research team has identified several molecules that promote neurite outgrowth.
