Department of Neurobiology
Zhefeng Gong is a Professor in Department of Neurobiology, Zhejiang University School of Medicine in Hangzhou, China. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Department of Biology at Wuhan University and a Ph.D. from the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Science.
During Dr. Gong’s Ph.D. training, he worked on the genetic factors that regulate Drosophila operant visual memory. As a post-doctoral fellow (2000 to 2003) in Jay Hirsh’s lab at University of Virginia, he cloned the gene inactive that encodes a TRP channel and found showed its role in Drosophila hearing. He then moved to David Castle’s lab during 2003-2005. Here he studied the function of the gene SCAMP in cell traffick and the role of the gene in development of Drosophila morphology.
In 2006, Dr. Gong was recruited as faculty at the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. His work was focused on the neural circuit mechanism that underlies Drosophila larval light avoidance. He moved to Zhejiang University at 2012. His research is mainly about the neural processing of visual and thermal information, and the neural control of movement behavior in Drosophila larva.
