Sylvain Bohic is a senior researcher at INSERM (the French National Institute of Health & Medical Research). He received his master in Physics at Université de Bretagne Occidentale and a Ph.D. with highest honors from Université de Nantes, FR.
During Dr. Bohic’s training he developed a keen focus on research that encompasses spectrochemistry particulalrly Raman and Infrared microscopies on bone minarelisation processes and biomaterials for bone and tooth repair. As a post-doctoral fellow (1999-2003) and beamline scientist (2003-2005) at the former Microfluorescence-Microdiffraction-Microimaging beamline ID22 of the European synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF), Grenoble, FR.. He contributed to some of pioneer works on single-cell elemental imaging using synchrotron X-ray microprobe.Dr. Bohic was recruited in 2005 as senior scientist at INSERM in the laboratory Synchrotron Radiation and Medical Research (Prof. Esteve). Dr. Bohic is also scientific collaborator at the ESRF hard X-ray Naoprobe beamline ID16A. His research program encompasses mesoscale metal imaging in biological tissues, and, in cells using synchrotron-based methods and micro/ nano spectromicroscopy techniques for quantitative elemental imaging and speciation, with a particular focus on the role of metals in neurodegenerative diseases and in the biological mechanisms of metallo-organic molecules or nanoparticles in targeting cancer cells.
