Dr. Adrian Cohen is the founder of HeadsafeIP and a previous Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney Faculty of Medicine.
With practical expertise in remote area medical services, occupational medicine and medical evacuation, he has spent over 30 years in emergency medical services in Australia and abroad. He is the founder of the Headsafe and NeckSafe programs.
Over the last decade he has piloted studies into brain injury assessment with a focus on EEG testing, impact sensors and biomarkers as well as visual, balance and neurocognitive testing, culminating in the development of Nurochek, and innovative, portable, objective and affordable brain assessment device.
Dr Cohen also works with sports and team clinicians from a diagnostic and treatment perspective.
As a previous Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney Faculty of Medicine, he supervised undergraduate and postgraduate students in Ophthalmology and Biomedical Engineering with a practical application to concussion. With practical expertise in remote area medical services, occupational medicine and medical evacuation, he has spent over 20 years in emergency medical services in Australia and abroad specialising in medical risk management, pre-hospital care, helicopter and international retrieval with a special emphasis on preventable head and neck injuries.
Over the last six years he has piloted a longitudinal study into concussion in senior rugby players with a focus on impact sensors and biomarkers as well as visual, balance and neurocognitive testing. He aims to combine research into areas of biomedical engineering, visual neuroscience, GPS tracking, biomarkers, transcranial magnetic imaging, EEG and neuroimaging to further our understanding of concussion.
Dr Cohen also works with sports and team clinicians from a diagnostic and treatment perspective.
Frustrated at the lack of available tools for assessment of brain injury, Dr. Cohen and the Headsafe team worked to create Nurochek, an objective, portable and affordable device to address this ever-growing issue.
