OBJECTIVE: There is substantial evidence that the low intake of fruit and vegetables (FV) is a major risk factor for many nutrition-related non-communicable diseases. The purpose of our study was to assess FV consumption and the variables that influence FV consumption among Chinese people age 60 and older. METHODS: Twenty-four-hour dietary recall data from the 1991, 1993, 1997, 2000, 2004, 2006, and 2009 China Health and Nutrition Surveys were used to collect the FV intake and sociodemographic variables examined in this article. Data were analyzed using t tests, Ï‡(2) tests, and logistic regression. RESULTS: Between 1991 and 2009, elderly Chinese adults experienced an improvement in dietary FV intake. The FV consumption increased from 325.7 g/d in 1991 to 379.0 g/d in 2009. During this 18-y period, the proportion of daily consumers increased from 11.0% to 32.5% for fruit and remained over 95% for vegetables. Age, gender, educational attainment, community, activity level, marital status, and drinking were significantly associated with FV consumption. CONCLUSION: The findings of this study indicated that FV intake among elderly adults in China was lower than the minimum of 400 g/d recommended by the World Health Organization. Greater public health efforts and approaches are needed to promote FV consumption in elderly Chinese adults.

Le but de notre &eacute;tude &eacute;tait d&#39;&eacute;valuer la consommation FV et les variables qui influencent la consommation FV parmi le peuple chinois &acirc;ge 60 ans et plu. M&eacute;thodes : Vingt-quatre heures des donn&eacute;es de la sant&eacute; de Chine et enqu&ecirc;tes sur la Nutrition, 1991, 1993, 1997, 2000, 2004, 2006 et 2009 ont &eacute;t&eacute; utilis&eacute;es pour recueillir les variables d&#39;apport et sociod&eacute;mographiques FV examin&eacute;es dans cet article. Donn&eacute;es ont &eacute;t&eacute; analys&eacute;es au moyen de tests t, s.h.g. et r&eacute;gression logistique. R&Eacute;SULTATS : Entre 1991 et 2009, &acirc;g&eacute;es chinoises a connu une am&eacute;lioration de l&#39;apport alimentaire de FV. La consommation de FV pass&eacute;e de 325,7 g/d en 1991 &agrave; 379,0 g/j en 2009. Au cours de cette p&eacute;riode 18-y, la proportion des consommateurs quotidiens est pass&eacute; de 11,0 % &agrave; 32,5 % pour les fruits et est rest&eacute; plus de 95 % pour les l&eacute;gumes. &Acirc;ge, sexe, niveau de scolarit&eacute;, communaut&eacute;, niveau d&#39;activit&eacute;, l&#39;&eacute;tat matrimonial et boire &eacute;taient significativement associ&eacute;s &agrave; la consommation de la FV. CONCLUSION : Les r&eacute;sultats de cette &eacute;tude indiquent que l&#39;apport de la FV chez les adultes &acirc;g&eacute;s en Chine &eacute;tait inf&eacute;rieur au minimum de 400 g/j, recommand&eacute;s par l&#39;Organisation mondiale de la sant&eacute;. Das Ziel unserer Studie war, FV-Verbrauch und die Variablen, die FV-Verbrauch unter chinesischen Menschen ab 60 Jahren beeinflussen. OBJETIVO: Hay pruebas sustanciales de que la baja ingesta de frutas y hortalizas (FV) es un importante factor de riesgo para muchas enfermedades no transmisibles relacionadas con la nutrici&oacute;n. El objetivo de nuestro estudio fue evaluar el consumo de FV y las variables que influyen el consumo de FV entre los chinos mayores de 60 a&ntilde;os. M&Eacute;TODOS: Se utilizaron datos de memoria diet&eacute;tica veinte-cuatro-hora del 1991, 1993, 1997, 2000, 2004, 2006 y 2009 China Salud y encuestas de nutrici&oacute;n para recoger las variables de entrada y sociodemogr&aacute;ficas FV examinadas en este art&iacute;culo. Datos fueron analizados mediante pruebas t, pruebas &chi;(2) y regresi&oacute;n log&iacute;stica. Resultados: Entre 1991 y 2009, adultos mayores de chinas experimentaron una mejora en la ingesta FV. El consumo de FV aument&oacute; de 325,7 g/d en 1991 a 379.0 g/d en 2009. Durante este per&iacute;odo de 18-y, la proporci&oacute;n de consumidores diarios aument&oacute; del 11.0% al 32,5% de fruta y permaneci&oacute; m&aacute;s de 95% para las verduras. Edad, g&eacute;nero, nivel educativo, comunidad, nivel de actividad, estado civil y beber se asociaron significativamente con el consumo de FV. CONCLUSI&Oacute;N: Los resultados de este estudio indicaron que la ingesta de FV entre adultos mayores en China era menor que el m&iacute;nimo de 400 g/d recomendado por la Organizaci&oacute;n Mundial de la salud. Se necesitan mayores esfuerzos de salud p&uacute;blica y enfoques para promover el consumo de FV en adultos mayores de chinas.
