Alberto Maria Luciano is a Full Professor of Veterinary Anatomy and Embryology in the Department of Health and Animal Science and Food Safety at the University of Milan, Italy. Founder and group coordinator of the Reproductive and Developmental Biology Laboratory (www.redbiolab.unimi.it) since 2000, he earned an M.S. in Biological Sciences in 1991 and a Ph.D. in Biotechnology applied to Veterinary and Animal Sciences in 1997 from the University of Milan. He undertook a postdoctoral fellowship (1992 to 1993) in Reproductive Physiology in John Peluso's Lab at the University of Connecticut, School of Medicine, Farmington, CT, USA.
Author of more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, the majority of which have focused on the study of the regulation of germ cell development by intercellular signaling in the mammalian ovarian follicle and the cellular and molecular determinants that confer embryonic developmental competence to the oocyte.
