分析方法可分为四个连贯步骤:技术、方法、程序和协议。技术是一种通过化学测量合理化特定现象的科学原理。采用一种技术来分析感兴趣的样本称为方法。程序则是为执行某一分析方法而设定的具体步骤和指南。协议是有关该程序的详细准则,应严格遵循以确保获得预期的结果。
分析方法可分为经典方法和仪器方法。经典分析方法使用湿化学过程(例如沉淀、萃取或蒸馏)将感兴趣的成分(即分析物)与样本中的其余材料(即基质)分离。仪器分析方法使用仪器测量分析物的物理特性,例如电导率、电极电位、质荷比以及光的吸收或发射。选择分析方法需要综合考虑多个因素,包括所需的准确度、精密度、灵敏度、选择性、稳健性、耐用性、操作规模、分析时间、设备可用性和成本。
