Javier Rojo-Gonzalez is a PhD student at Universitat de Barcelona (UB) under the supervision of ICREA professor Alberto Fernández-Nieves. He earned in 2019, as a CFIS student, both an undergraduate degree in Engineering Physics and in Industrial Technologies Engineering from the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC) with honors as the first of his promotion in both degrees. His undergraduate thesis was developed in David Weitz lab at Harvard University. He also obtained the academic excellence award (ex-aequo) of his CFIS promotion. In 2020 he earned a master degree in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology from the UB with honors. During his academic life he has received several awards and grants thanks to his academic performance.
His current scientific interests are in the field of soft matter physics. He is currently interested in the interplay between order, geometry and topology for partially ordered materials under confinement, mainly liquid crystals and in the extreme thermodynamics of gels where a phase transition at constant volume interacts with the confining geometry producing deformations. Other interests are on microfluidics and hydrogels.
