In this paper we investigate the electrostriction effect on the whispering gallery modes (WGM) of polymeric microspheres and the feasibility of a WGM-based microsensor for electric field measurement. The electrostriction is the elastic deformation (strain) of a dielectric material under the force exerted by an electrostatic field. The deformation is accompanied by mechanical stress which perturbs the refractive index distribution in the sphere. Both strain and stress induce a shift in the WGM of the microsphere. In the present, we develop analytical expressions for the WGM shift due to electrostriction for solid and thin-walled hollow microspheres. Our analysis indicates that detection of electric fields as small as ~500V/m may be possible using water filled, hollow solid polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) microspheres. The electric field sensitivities for solid spheres, on the other hand, are significantly smaller. Results of experiments carried out using solid PDMS spheres agree well with the analytical prediction.

Dans cet article, nous &eacute;tudions l&#39;effet de l&#39;&eacute;lectrostriction sur les modes de Galerie (WGM) murmure de microsph&egrave;res polym&eacute;riques et la faisabilit&eacute; d&#39;un microcapteur WGM-bas&eacute; pour la mesure du champ &eacute;lectrique. L&#39;&eacute;lectrostriction est la d&eacute;formation &eacute;lastique (d&eacute;formation) d&#39;un mat&eacute;riau di&eacute;lectrique sous la force exerc&eacute;e par un champ &eacute;lectrostatique. La d&eacute;formation s&#39;accompagne de contraintes m&eacute;caniques qui perturbe la r&eacute;partition de l&#39;indice de r&eacute;fraction dans la sph&egrave;re. Souche et le stress induisent un changement dans WGM de la microsph&egrave;re. Dans le pr&eacute;sent, nous d&eacute;veloppons des expressions analytiques pour le d&eacute;calage WGM en raison de l&#39;&eacute;lectrostriction de microsph&egrave;res creuses solides et &agrave; parois minces. Notre analyse indique que d&eacute;tection de champs &eacute;lectriques aussi petits que ~500V/m peut &ecirc;tre possible &agrave; l&#39;aide d&#39;eau rempli, les microsph&egrave;res creuses solides polydim&eacute;thylsiloxane (PDMS). Les sensibilit&eacute;s de champ &eacute;lectrique pour des sph&egrave;res solides, en revanche, sont sensiblement plus petites. In diesem Artikel untersuchen wir die Elektrostriktion Wirkung auf die Fl&uuml;sternde Galerie-Modi (WGM) der Polymere Mikrosph&auml;ren und die Machbarkeit einer WGM-basierte Reinstraum zur Messung des elektrischen Feldes. Die Elektrostriktion ist die elastische Verformung (Stamm) von einem dielektrischen Material unter die Kraft durch ein elektrostatisches Feld. Die Verformung ist durch mechanische Beanspruchung begleitet, die die Brechzahl-Verteilung im Bereich w&uuml;hlt. Belastung und Stress induzieren eine Verschiebung in der WGM der Mikrosph&auml;ren. In der Gegenwart entwickeln wir analytische Ausdr&uuml;cke f&uuml;r die WGM-Schicht durch Elektrostriktion f&uuml;r solide und d&uuml;nnwandige Mikrohohlkugeln. Unsere Analyse zeigt die Erkennung von elektrischen Feldern so klein wie ~500V/m mit Wasser gef&uuml;llt, hohlen solide Polydimethylsiloxan (PDMS) Mikrosph&auml;ren m&ouml;glich sein kann. Die elektrische Feld Empfindlichkeiten f&uuml;r solide Sph&auml;ren, sind auf der anderen Seite deutlich geringer. Ergebnisse der Versuche, die mit solide PDMS-Sph&auml;ren Stimmen gut mit der analytischen Vorhersage.

In questa carta si indaga l&#39;effetto electrostriction la modalit&agrave; Galleria whispering (WGM) di microsfere polimeriche e la fattibilit&agrave; di un microsensor WGM-basato per la misura del campo elettrico. Il electrostriction &egrave; la deformazione elastica (ceppo) di un materiale dielettrico sotto la forza esercitata da un campo elettrostatico. La deformazione &egrave; accompagnata da sollecitazioni meccaniche che sconvolge la distribuzione dell&#39;indice di rifrazione nella sfera. Ceppo sia lo stress indurre un cambiamento nel WGM delle microsfere. Nel presente, sviluppiamo le espressioni analitiche per lo spostamento WGM dovuto electrostriction per microsfere cave solide e sottili. La nostra analisi indica che la determinazione di campi elettrici pi&ugrave; piccoli come ~500V/m pu&ograve; essere possibile utilizzando acqua pieno, le microsfere cave solido polidimetilsilossano (PDMS). En este trabajo investigamos el efecto electrostriction en los modos de Galer&iacute;a susurrante (WGM) de microesferas polim&eacute;ricas y la viabilidad de un microsensor WGM-base para la medici&oacute;n de campo el&eacute;ctrico. El electrostriction es la deformaci&oacute;n el&aacute;stica (CEPA) de un material diel&eacute;ctrico bajo la fuerza ejercida por un campo electrost&aacute;tico. La deformaci&oacute;n es acompa&ntilde;ada por el estr&eacute;s mec&aacute;nico que perturba la distribuci&oacute;n del &iacute;ndice de refracci&oacute;n en la esfera. Tensi&oacute;n y el estr&eacute;s inducen un cambio en la WGM de la microesfera. En la actualidad, desarrollamos expresiones anal&iacute;ticas para el turno WGM debido a electrostriction para microesferas huecas s&oacute;lidas y de paredes delgadas. Nuestro an&aacute;lisis indica la detecci&oacute;n de campos el&eacute;ctricos tan peque&ntilde;os como ~500V/m puede ser posible con agua llenado, microesferas huecas s&oacute;lido polidimetilsiloxano (PDMS). Las sensibilidades de campo el&eacute;ctrico para esferas s&oacute;lidas, por el contrario, son significativamente menores. Resultados de experimentos realizados con esferas s&oacute;lidas de PDMS concuerdan bien con la predicci&oacute;n anal&iacute;tica.
