הגנגליון stomatogastric (STG) הוא מודל מצוין לחקר אינטראקציות הסלולר ורשת מכיוון שהוא מכיל מספר קטן יחסית של תאים (כ 25 ב C. borealis) אשר מאופיינים היטב. התאים STG בתערוכה מגוון רחב של יציאות ואחראים על פעולות מוטוריות של הקיבה. הבטן מכיל את טחנת קיבה אשר מתפרק מזון עם שלוש שיניים פנימיים, השוער אשר מסננים את האוכל לפני שהוא מגיע midgut.
