Hemihepatectomies são na sua maioria realizados depois de preparar as estruturas extra-hepáticas hilar dentro do ligamento hepatoduodenal, mesmo em tumores benignos ou metástase hepática.<sup&gt; 05/01</sup&gt;. Extra-hepáticas linfadenectomia regional é um padrão oncológico no colangiocarcinoma hilar, carcinoma intra-celular cholangio e carcinoma hepatocelular, enquanto que metástases linfonodais no hilo hepático em pacientes com metástase hepática raramente são ocultas.
