Chemotaxis kunnen bacteriën bronnen van lokstof chemicaliën aanpak of de bronnen van afstotende stoffen te voorkomen. Bacteriën voortdurend de concentratie van specifieke chemoeffectors door het vergelijken van de huidige concentratie van de gemeten concentratie een paar seconden eerder. Deze vergelijking bepaalt de netto-richting van de beweging. Hoewel meerdere, concurrerende gradiënten vaak samen in de natuur, conventionele benaderingen voor het onderzoeken van bacteriële chemotaxis zijn suboptimaal voor het kwantificeren van de migratie in reactie op de concentratie gradiënten van lokstoffen en insectenwerende middelen. Hier beschrijven we de ontwikkeling van een microfluïdische chemotaxis model voor het presenteren van een nauwkeurige en stabiele concentratie gradiënten van chemoeffectors om bacteriën en kwantitatief onderzoek naar hun reactie op de toegepaste gradiënt. Het apparaat is veelzijdig in die concentratie gradiënten van elke gewenste absolute concentratie en gradiënt sterkte kan eenvoudig worden gegenereerd door diffusie mengen. Het apparaat is aangetoond met behulp van de reactie van<em&gt; Escherichia coli</em&gt; RP437 tot gradiënten van aminozuren en nikkel ionen.
