İdeal olarak, böyle bir sistemin görüntüleme teknikleri, genetik manipülasyon ve elektrofizyolojik kayıt ile uyumlu olmalıdır. Burada hiçbir özel ekipman ve çok az bakım gerektirir yetişkin tavşan retina için basit bir interfaz doku kültürü sistemi mevcut. Biz tavşan retina ve parçacık GFP veya retina ganglion hücrelerinin içine Subselüler belirteçleri çeşitli kodlama plazmid aracılı gen transferi diseksiyon ve inkübasyon göstermektedir. Tavşan retina, bu şekilde genel anatomik yapısı çok az değişiklik ya da bireysel morfolojisi ganglion ve amacrine hücreleri ile 6 gün kadar canlı tutulabilir kültür.
