<p class="jove_content"> Licht is een veelzijdige en nauwkeurige manier om neuronale prikkelbaarheid te controleren. De recente invoering van het licht gevoelige effectoren, zoals kanaal-rhodopsine en gekooide neurotransmitters hebben geleid tot belangen in het ontwikkelen van betere middelen om patronen van licht controle in ruimte en tijd die nuttig zijn voor experimentele neurowetenschappen. Een conventionele strategie, werkzaam in confocale en twee-foton microscopie, is aan het licht focus naar een diffractie beperkte plek en vervolgens opeenvolgend scan die enkele plek over de regio van belang. Deze aanpak wordt problematisch als grote gebieden moeten worden gestimuleerd binnen een korte tijd venster, een probleem dat meer van toepassing is op fotostimulatie dan voor de beeldvorming. Een alternatieve strategie is om het project de volledige ruimtelijk patroon op het doel met behulp van een digitaal Micromirror apparaat (DMD). De DMD aanpak is aantrekkelijk omdat de hardware componenten zijn relatief goedkoop en wordt ondersteund door commerciële belangen. Omdat een dergelijk systeem is niet beschikbaar voor rechtop microscopen, bespreken we de kritische punten in de bouw en de exploitatie van een dergelijk systeem DMD. Ook al zullen we in de eerste plaats de bouw van het systeem beschrijft voor UV fotolyse, zullen de wijzigingen voor de bouw van het veel eenvoudiger zichtbare licht voor optogenetic experimenten worden verstrekt. De UV fotolyse systeem werd gebruikt om de experimenten Carryout op een fundamentele vraag in de neurowetenschappen bestuderen, hoe ruimtelijk verdeeld ingangen geïntegreerd in distale dendritische tak punten. De resultaten suggereren dat de integratie kunnen niet-lineair zijn over de tak punten en de supralinearity is grotendeels tot stand door de NMDA-receptoren. </p>
