Biyofilmler, son derece dinamik, değişken yoğunluklu ve kompozisyon 1, 2, ekstraselüler matriks ağına düşmüştür mikrobiyal hücrelerin düzenli ve yapılandırılmış topluluklar . Genel olarak, biyofilm hücre kümeleri (veya mikrokoloniler) ve karmaşık bir matriks meydana gelen mikrokoloniler daha da geliştirilmesi ve istikrar oluşumu takip eden bir yüzey üzerine ilk mikrobiyal eklenti gelişir.
