MRSA är ett globalt hot mot folkhälsan, och MRSA hud-och mjukdelsinfektioner står nu för mer än hälften av alla mjukdelsinfektioner i USA. Bland mjukdelsinfektioner, har myosit, pyomyositis och nekrotiserande fasciit varit allt rapporterats i samband med MRSA som härrör från gemenskapen. För att förstå samspelet mellan MRSA och värd immunitet som leder till mer allvarlig infektion, är tillgången på djurmodeller kritiska, vilket möjliggör studier av värd och bakteriella faktorer.
