Polímeros com memória de forma (SMPs) são uma classe de materiais &quot;inteligentes&quot; que têm a capacidade de mudar de uma forma, fixa temporária a uma forma pré-determinada permanente sobre a aplicação de um estímulo, como o calor 1-5. Em um ciclo típico de memória de forma, o SMP é o primeiro deformado a uma temperatura elevada que é superior à sua temperatura de transição, T trans [ou a temperatura de fusão (T m) ou a temperatura de transição vítrea (T g)]. A deformação é elástica na natureza e, principalmente, leva a uma redução da entropia conformacional das cadeias constituintes da rede (seguindo a teoria da elasticidade de borracha). A SMP deformado é então resfriado a uma temperatura abaixo de sua T trans, mantendo a tensão externa ou estresse constante. Durante o resfriamento, as transições de material para um estado mais rígida (semi-cristalino ou vítreo), que cineticamente armadilhas ou &quot;congela&quot; o material neste estado de baixa entropia levando a fixação forma macroscópica. Recuperação de forma contínua é provocada por aquecimento do material através da T trans sob um stress-free condição (sem restrições). Ao permitir que as cadeias de rede (com mobilidade recuperou) para relaxar a sua termodinamicamente favorecido, o estado máximo de entropia, o material muda de forma temporária à forma permanente. Células são capazes de levantamento das propriedades mecânicas do seu ambiente circundante 6. Os mecanismos pelos quais as interações mecânicas entre as células e seus ambiente físico comportamento da célula de controle são áreas de pesquisa ativa. Substratos de topografia definida surgiram como ferramentas poderosas na investigação destes mecanismos. Mesoescala, microescala, e os padrões em nanoescala da topografia do substrato foram mostrados para dirigir o alinhamento celular, adesão celular, e as forças de tração de células 7-14. Esses achados têm ressaltou o potencial para a topografia do substrato para controlar e ensaio as interações mecânicas entre as células e seu meio ambiente físico durante a cultura de células, mas os substratos utilizados até à data têm sido geralmente passivo e não poderia ser programado para mudar significativamente durante a cultura. Esta estase física tem limitado o potencial de substratos topográfica para controlar células em cultura. Aqui, ativos de cultura de células substratos (ACC) são introduzidos SMP que utilizam memória de superfície de forma programada para fornecer controle da topografia do substrato e deformação. Estes substratos demonstrar a capacidade de transição de uma topografia temporária ranhuras para um segundo, topografia quase plana memorizado. Esta mudança na topografia pode ser usado para controlar o comportamento de células sob condições de cultura de células padrão.
