using affordable led arrays for photo-stimulation of neurons

Standard skive elektrofysiologi har gjort det muligt forskere til at undersøge de enkelte komponenter i neurale kredsløb ved at optage elektriske svar af enlige celler som reaktion på elektrisk eller farmakologiske manipulationer 1,2. Med opfindelsen af ​​metoder til optisk kontrol genetisk målrettet neuroner (optogenetics), nu har forskerne en hidtil uset grad af kontrol over specifikke grupper af neuroner i standarden skive forberedelse. Især giver lysfølsomt channelrhodopsin-2 (ChR2) forskere at aktivere neuroner med lys 3,4. Ved at kombinere omhyggelig kalibrering af LED-baserede photostimulation af ChR2 med standard skive elektrofysiologi, er vi i stand til at probe med flere detaljer rollen som voksen-fødte interneuroner i lugtekolben, den første centrale relæ af det olfaktoriske system.
